General description
38 kDa
The p38 family refers to the SAPK2/3 Kinases (Stess-Activated Protein Kinases), a subfamily of JNK/SAPK family. p38/SAPK Kinases are also activated by stresses, most notably inflammatory cytokines, irradiation, and certain toxins such as anisomycin and arsenite. SAPKs have been implicated in many pathological conditions, including inflammation, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. As with the other MAPK family members (ERK, JNK, p38MAPK, and ERK5), p38 is activated through phosphorylation on both threonine and tyrosine residues at the Thr-X-Tyr dual phosphorylation motif, where X is Gly for p38. Once phosphorylated and active, it then goes on to phosphorylate downstream targets in both the cytoplasm and the nucleus. Some of their main targets of p38 are the kinase MAPKAPK2 and the transcription factor ATF2 that are activated via their phosphorylation.
Immunogen
Epitope: Phosphorylated Thr180/Tyr182
Synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids surrounding and including phosphorylated Thr180/Tyr182 of human p38α.
Application
Anti-phospho-p38α(Thr180/Tyr182) Antibody, clone 8.78.8 detects level of phospho-p38α(Thr180/Tyr182) & has been published & validated for use in WB & IF.
Research Sub Category
MAP Kinases
Inflammation & Autoimmune Mechanisms
Biochem/physiol Actions
Predicted to cross-react with many other species based on 100% sequence homology with immunogen.
This antibody detects p38α when phosphorylated on Thr180/Tyr182.
Physical form
Rabbit monoclonal antibody in culture supernatant containing 0.05% sodium azide.
Analysis Note
Evaluated by western blot on anisomycin-treated HeLa cell lysate.
Western Blot Analysis: 1:5,000-1:10,000 dilution of this antibody was used to detect p38 phosphorylated on Thr180/Tyr182 in anisomycin-treated HeLa and NIH/3T3 cell lysate.
