General description
The PKMYT1 (protein kinase, membrane associated tyrosine/threonine 1) gene is differentially expressed between fetal liver and postnatal liver. This gene is mapped to human chromosome 16p13.3. It is also known to be localized to immature oocytes. MYT1 (myelin transcription factor 1) is a member of a family of neural specific, zinc finger-containing DNA-binding proteins. MYT1 of the oligodendrocyte lineage, along with a closely related CCHC zinc finger, is expressed in developing neurons in the mammalian central nervous system. The recombinant MYT1 fragments containing either the upstream 2 zinc fingers or the downstream 4 zinc fingers bound the same cis regulatory element in the PLP1 promoter in vitro and DNA binding required Zn2+, but not other divalent cations.
Biochem/physiol Actions
The PKMYT1 (protein kinase, membrane associated tyrosine/threonine 1) gene expression is essential for disease progression of colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. The action of Cdc2 (cyclin-dependent kinase 2), an essential molecule required for the induction of mitosis, is regulated by PKMYT1. PKMYT1 binds to the promoter regions of proteolipid proteins of the central nervous system and plays a role in the developing nervous system.
