BIBP3226 is a potent and selective non-peptide neuropeptide Y receptor Y1 antagonist (Ki = 7 nM against neuropeptide Y binding to receptor Y1) in vitro and in vivo. BIBP3226 selectively blocks Y1 receptor-mediated rabbit saphenous vein contraction (pA2 = 7.36), but not receptor Y2- or Y3-dependent biological effects.
