Application

Anti-CAMK4 antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project . Biochem/physiol Actions

CAMK4 (calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV) is a multifunctional serine/threonine protein kinase belonging to the CaMK family. It is a Ca²⁺ sensor molecule that enters the nucleus via adapter protein, importin-α. It binds to and activates calcium response-element binding (CREB) protein by phosphorylation for gene transcriptional regulation. It can also control alternate splicing by interacting with the ribonuclear protein L. The hippocampus and cerebellum of the CNS (central nervous system) that are responsible for long-term depression (LTD), dendritic growth, and the acquisition of memories are regulated by CAMK4. It also controls the phosphorylation of protamines during spermatogenesis, in terms of, controlling human sperm motility. Thus, a mutation in CAMK4 causes the infertility in men due to abnormal semen activity.
